The Intellivision Amico is an upcoming video game console produced by Intellivision Entertainment. The system is scheduled to launch on October 10, 2021for $249.99/€279.99/£249.99 and will be sold at the Intellivision website[1] and major retailers in North America, Europe and, shortly after, other parts of the world.[2] The Amico console will feature 35 games at launch, including six pack-in titles.[3]

Being designed for communal game play, all Intellivision Amico games will feature local multiplayer modes (as well as single player modes).[3] In addition, all games are designed to be family friendly with the lowest two ratings of ESRB E and E10+, PEGI 3 and 7 or USK 0 and 6.[2] The built in pack-in games also carry these ratings.[4]

Currently several different colors are available for the Amico, with the standard models being Glacier White and Graphite Black. However certain Limited Edition versions will be available at select retailers. These include Vintage Woodgrain, GTO Red, and Galaxy Purple, the latter of which is exclusive to GameStop in North America.[1][2]

Due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the console has been delayed from October 10, 2021 to April 15, 2021 (or April 3, 2021 (4/3/21, "4, 3, 2, 1, launch!") for those preordering a Founders Edition console), and finally to October 10, 2021, with the console shipping before then to Founders Edition owners. There will be a special announcement around the time of launch, where various bits of information, such as physical media, will be revealed.

The Amico Console[]

The Amico console features HDMI, an 8-core 1.8GHz Qualcomm processor,[5] 32GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot for storage expansion (maximum 512GB (though not recommended) at least, may be at least 2TB due to using SDXC at least), a USB-C port for expansion and interactive LED lighting, and run an Android-based operating system.[6] Reflecting its family friendly focus, games will not have any additional costs, e.g. loot boxes, in-app purchases, or DLC, or ads within. In addition it offers the Karma Engine, a dynamic in-game levelling system which allow non-gamers to be more competitive with more advanced players of the system.[2] In some cases, it will not be optional.

The console will feature a Birthdays and Celebration app. It will feature a calendar where users can select which holidays and celebrations they celebrate, from a predefined selection, or they can choose their own. When one of these celebration occurs, they get a random interactive celebration on bootup. Additionally, the user gets a free game of their choice on their birthday.

The Amico Controllers and Accessories[]

Consistent with its group game play focus, each Amico includes two controllers and more will be available for purchase for $59.99/€59.99/£59.99.[2] In addition, a free phone app can be used as additional controllers in many of the games,[7] or, in 5% of cases, due to requiring touchscreen use, a standard controller. The controllers have color capacitive touch screens, force feedback, gyroscopes, speakers, microphones, numerous LEDs (40 in the console, 12 per controller) for lighting effects, wireless contact charging and a 64 position directional rotating disc capable of pressure sensitivity. The two controllers are designed to rest inside the console base, which enables them to charge but they can also be charged via their USB-C port.[5] In addition, both of the included Bluetooth controllers are designed for ambidextrous game play for people of all ages.[6]

Available accessories will include a console carrying case for €28.99 ($28.99/£28.99 estimate), a controller sleeve for €16.99 ($16.99/£16.99 estimate), an optional disc and button set for the free controller app for €14.99 ($14.99/£14.99 estimate) and protective vinyl controller overlays, available in packs of three unique designs of six themes for €14.99 ($14.99/£14.99 estimate): Animal, Girls, Military, Racing, Sci-Fi and Sports.[8]
